April/May Favorites! 2014.
Moving forward I'll be doing these every month! (o:3 - I just spent the majority of May getting into the swing of things at work, hence my lack of posts across the board. New Month, New Kibsta. It's a goal I've set amongst others, that I can't wait to share with you all!
April wasn't too thrilling but here's are some favorites that I came across!
Thing to watch (on Netflix) : Usual Suspects
I've seen this movie probably half a dozen times, and I could watch it a half a dozen more too. It's got Kevin Spacey who plays Verbal Kint, a cripple, who is the only survivor of a boat that's been destroyed. Everyone's dead except for him and the movie is based around his story, that begins with a police lineup! That's all I'm gunna say without giving too much away, but this movie is a classic and well worth a watch, or two.
Food : Tres Jamones - Despaña
I've been to Spain, and I can't begin to explain to you my love of authentic Spanish food. I love all food in general, but Spanish cuisine will always have a place in my heart.
For those who don't know what jamon is, it's essentially the Spanish version of prosciutto. And if you've been living under a rock and don't know what prosciutto is, I'll tell ya!
Prosciutto is from Italy - the good kind anyway - and is made from the hind leg of a pig/boar, it usually takes anywhere from nine months to a year to cure. It's sliced super thin (butchers love doing this, naht) and can be eaten with just about anything; pizza, fruit, by itself, etc.
Serrano Ham or Jamon is from Spain, and is dry-cured as well - also like the French jambon de Bayonne - the main difference about serrano ham is the pig in which it's made from. The Landrace breed of white big and Iberico ham are both super popular. Iberico ham is made from Iberuci pigs that are only fed acorns, pastor or compound!
Movie I Saw : Transcendence
Philippe and I saw this and thought that it was pretty on point. Johnny Depp does a stellar job at being creepy by the way. The movie calls upon some fantastic themes that have been pretty popular with recent films (Her). Depp's character is Will Caster and he's the shit when it comes to AI (artificial intelligence). His life's work is based around developing an omnipresent sentient machine that can essentially think for itself because it has human emotions. You can only imagine the conflict that comes with robots, so if you're into that sorta thing I would suggest watching it! Pay close attention and I promise it'll be worth while in the end.
Cocktail/Beer : Fireball Whiskey, because bitches love Fireball.
New Place : Despana
This place is fanfuckingtastic. They serve authentic Spanish cuisine, and they know what they're doing. They're been mentioned by the NYTimes, Food & Wine, Huffington Post etc. and for good reason too.
Things to know if you go:
- BYOB (if you wanna splurge order the sangria kit and all your own wine, there's a liquor store across the street)
- paella, get the paella. We ordered the squid ink one and could've got another. I can't wait to try them all.
- tres jamones is the way. to. go.
Artist : Jon Paul Douglass
I love this guy's stuff, #pizzainthewild, you're welcome.
Read : 1984 by George Orwell
I'm not gunna lie, I've read the first two pages. I'll report back once I get a little deeper.
Want/Lust : Leather Jacket
It's been a year and some hefty change since I last had my baby - I'm totally over it as you can see -, still on the quest for one like this!
Man : Johnny Depp
Woman : Iggy Azalea (dat ass doe)
Trend : Compost Piles
call my crunchy, but I've been on the hunt for composting methods! so if you have any that work for you, let me know please!!
Tip : “Good things come to those who wait”
this post pretty much sums up how I feel about this tip.
May Favorites!
Thing to watch : Friday Night Lights
Okay, so even though I made a promise to stop re-watching tv shows. This is one series that will bring my to tears every time. It's got really great character development, and it hits on almost every "major issue" that long-running series tend to touch upon. Yes, it's about football, but there really isn't that much sports screen-time. It focuses on the characters and while some are directly involved with the sport, there are plenty who aren't. If you enjoyed the movie and its themes, I would definitely recommend giving this one a watch!
PS, Taylor Kitsch anyone? got damn.
Food : Chicken Lo Mein
My mom has been ordering this nearly every week, and I have recently grown to love the stuff. It's just the right amount of meat:vegetable ratio. It's relatively healthy, and it's tasty AF. #nopicturenecessary
Movie I Saw : I unfortunately still haven't seen X-Men.
But can you guys give me suggestions?
Article of Clothing : Clarks Shira Brenna
Stay tuned for the complete outfit (o:3
Cocktail/Beer : Ginger Saison
I was an idiot and didn't write down the name of the brewery.
New Place : Christopher's
I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the Porter area. The food selection is pretty impressive and the beer/cocktail list has something for everyone (non-alcoholic even!)
Artist : Cameron Hamlet
I met Killa Cam through a friend from college. His creative side is refreshing and inspiring. I didn't have the opportunity to attend his show, but here's a behind the scenes snap of the artist at work!
Read : The Boston Globe
I convinced my mom to get the paper delivered to our house, and it's changed her life (and mine). Growing up, I would grab the Metro on the way to high school every day. I miss being able to take public transportation to my destinations sometimes, because you don't have to worry about red lights, or watching the road. You can just focus on whatever you want, and the only thing you have to worry about is missing your stop haha.
Want/Lust : white heels
I have been wanting a pair of white heels for about three or four years now. I think I might be making a move soon, but would love to hear your opinion/suggestions!
Man : mine
Woman : Samira Wiley aka Poussey
I love her character and if you're up to speed on the new season...we start to get a lot more background on our favorites! I love her character, she's smart, edgy, considerate, caring, all of which I'm sure Samira is in real life haha.
Trend : cheetah slip ons
I gave in and snagged a cheap pair so stay tuned for wdkwt posts!
Tip : spend time with your (grand)parents.
