What happens once you graduate? You visit your alma matter and quickly realize that you can hardly afford an alumni sticker let alone the thirty dollar shirt that symbolizes all your efforts (which consisted of having zero to no real life responsibilities) over the last four years.
here are a few scenarios that might - who am I kidding, more often than not going - play out.
- you wake up past noon for the fourth day in a row, surrounded by Kit Kat wrappers wishing some employer would give you a break so you can be relinquished from the funemployement hell that is your life.
- you're rudely awoken by your parents talking to "themselves" about the importance of having a job within earshot....you quickly snooze for another hour in hopes that the scary adults will be gone by then so you can troll the internetz in peace when you decide to get out of bed.
- you're most productive hours are somewhere between midnight and dawn, you're the champion at powering through an entire season of _____ on Netflix and you've just watched you're eight cat video (or is that just me?)
- you're "truly happy" for all of your employed friends, and you wish them the best. (in reality, there are no words to express your sheer and utter jealousy, so you just bury your sorrows in yet another episode of Orange is the New Black)
- you start searching for jobs that are tailored to things that you've come accustomed to being great at for instance: stopping the microwave before it hit's 0:00, using the same plate for a wide variety of foods to help "conserve water", switching the channel back to another show right as the commercial ends
*** I have not been involved in any of the above activities, they are merely from observation (nooo Piper don't do it!) ***
I've been searching for a job for the past four months, so believe me when I say I know how you feel. depressed, unmotivated, worthless, lost, and that's just before noon! but seriously, don't let it get you down! You're an alumni after all, which means you've had an opportunity of a lifetime. One third of the world's population lives on less than one dollar a day. The fact that you're even able to read this, let alone on a computer screen means that you're doing pretty darn well.
This post is dedicated to all of my fellow funemployed pals. I promise you it'll get better! You have your entire life to workwork.work live it up while you still can. Cherish all the days you get to sleep 'til noon and eat pizza in bed.
Don't forget to be grateful, stay focused , and to stay open. There are going to be roadblocks, but they're nothing that you haven't seen/overcome before. When in doubt that you made the right decision in even going to college just watch this....
